The Florida Highway Patrol tweeted a photo of the helmet worn by a motorcyclist who was stuck by lightning and killed.

The man was traveling on Interstate 95 on Sunday in Volusia County when authorities say a bolt of lightning struck, causing him to veer off the road and die. Just hours later, Florida Highway Patrol distributed a photo of the man’s shredded and burnt helmet on social media.

The article goes on to state the following:

“This is what’s left of a 45 year old man’s helmet after he was struck by lightning, while riding his motorcycle southbound, on I-95 in Volusia County this afternoon. Unfortunately he did not survive the crash,” the law enforcement agency tweeted.
