VIDEO: 2016 Trump GOP Challenger Comes Out for Impeachment; The Left Reacts
As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News App offers the following information published by NYMAG.COM:
After his unsuccessful effort to stop Donald Trump’s nomination in 2016, [John] Kasich was one of the few Republican Trump critics who never came around to an endorsement of the mogul, and even wrote in John McCain’s name on his November ballot. So perhaps it’s not surprising that he has become the most prominent Republican pol, so far, to call for Trump’s impeachment, as CNN reported:
Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich said President Donald Trump should be impeached, a major switch for a former Republican presidential candidate who had previously said there was not enough evidence to impeach the President.
Kasich, who’s a CNN senior political commentator, told CNN’s Ana Cabrera Friday the “final straw” for him was White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney’s Thursday admission that military aid was withheld from Ukraine in order to pressure that country for investigations into Democrats.
The article goes on to state the following:
Perhaps Kasich’s position is a harbinger of things to come — if not from other Republican pols then for previously Republican voters — or perhaps he will remain isolated. But it’s clear he’s a symbol of how rapidly his party, and particularly its conservative wing, has moved into Trump’s orbit, leaving him in principled opposition.
In the interview on CNN, Kasich accused Trump of withholding vital aid to Ukraine for political reasons, not due to a policy disagreement–which would have been more typical of an administration.
“This behavior, in my opinion, cannot be tolerated and action is gonna have to be taken,” the former Ohio governor said.
Greta Van Susteren, the host of “Full Court Press,” questioned Kasich’s announcement, considering his past disapproval of Trump.
“[F]inal straw?” She tweeted. “Kasich has not liked Trump since day 1 (would not even go to 2016 Repub convention and it was in his own state where he was gov).”
Anti-Trump figures reacted with praise for Kasich, however.
Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Cali.) tweeted, “John Kasich recognizes that the lawlessness of @realDonaldTrump is not a partisan issue, it’s an American issue.”
Liberal actress Alyssa Milano tweeted, “Republican, John Kasich, states exactly why he is for impeaching Trump. This is what true patriotism looks like. #PatriotNotPartisan.”
“Whoa!” wrote CNN contributor Tara Setmayer. “Kasich now supports impeachment! Thank you @JohnKasich for speaking out!!!”
“Kasich is a statesman of principle. I might not agree on everything with him but I highly respect him,” wrote actor W. Earl Brown.
