On Sunday, President Donald J. Trump signaled his right to move forward with a National Emergency declaration over border security, slammed Democrats over negotiations on the border wall, and weighed in on the latest Democrat to announce their candidacy for the 2020 race.

First, Trump quoted Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Cali.). Trump tweeted: “President is on sound legal ground to declare a National Emergency. There have been 58 National Emergencies declared since the law was enacted in 1976, and 31 right now that are currently active, so this is hardly unprecedented.” Congressman @tommcclintock

Next, Trump said that “Border Committee Democrats are behaving, all of a sudden, irrationally” in a tweet. He appears to be responding to reports that congressional negotiators and other lawmakers have signaled that a deal to fund border security and avoid another government shutdown may not be possible before the upcoming Friday deadline.

Sen. Richard Shelby (Ala.), the Senate’s top Republican negotiator, said that talks had stalled after Democrats raised new concerns about the number of immigrants detained at the border.

Trump tweeted, “The Border Committee Democrats are behaving, all of a sudden, irrationally. Not only are they unwilling to give dollars for the obviously needed Wall (they overrode recommendations of Border Patrol experts), but they don’t even want to take murderers into custody! What’s going on?”

Earlier Sunday, Trump accused Democratic leaders of interfering in the talks, tweeting:

“I don’t think the Dems on the Border Committee are being allowed by their leaders to make a deal. They are offering very little money for the desperately needed Border Wall & now, out of the blue, want a cap on convicted violent felons to be held in detention!”

He then tweeted about the latest Democrat to throw their hat into the ring and declare their candidacy for preident in 2020. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) declared her intention to run on Sunday. Trump responded, tweeting, “Well, it happened again. Amy Klobuchar announced that she is running for President, talking proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures. Bad timing. By the end of her speech she looked like a Snowman(woman)!”

Trump also retweeted a pair of tweets from Club For Growth, a PAC for economic freedom.
