The Department of Veterans Affairs pulled all residents from an assisted living home in Van Nuys, California, after finding a veteran who had been dead for four days. The incident followed several complaints of mistreatment in the region.

A VA social worker visited the Van Nuys assisted living home and found a veteran who died four days earlier, according to a Department of Veterans Affairs investigation reported by The investigation also detailed abuses of veterans including a 100-year-old diagnosed with sepsis. The California Villa home denied prescribed antibiotics because they were “not covered by Medicare.” The patient had to be hospitalized a second time due to the error.

The article goes on to state the following:

The report cited a double dose of medication to another veteran. A third person was denied prescription drugs and charged him $5 per meal because he preferred to eat in his room, the article states.

“I am shocked that such lax oversight of facilities providing critical care for vulnerable veterans ever occurred,” Special Counsel Henry J. Kerner wrote in a letter Thursday to the White House.

Isn’t it sad what is happening to our own people! The elderly, the unborn and everyone in between. Evil is running rampant but good will prevail.

This is a horrendous thing to have happen to our veterans! I wonder how many of the managers got bonuses for keeping costs down and how much upper management made as well off the suffering of these people. VA hospitals are not the only assisted care facilities or nursing homes that this kind of treatment and worse takes place. I believe that it all comes down to how much money can be made from the suffering of the people in their care.

This is a horrible thing and this facility and all employees should be punished to the full extent of the law. But i certainly hope this does not put a stain on all VA facilities or medical centers. My husband is a Vietnam Veteran and has been being treated at Ann Arbor Michigan VA hospital for about 5 years for cancer, copd, cataracts and borderline diabetic. The doctors, nurses and all staff has been nothing but caring, professional, compassionate and very straight forward with both of us. The best care he could get anywhere. We are very grateful for his ongoing care there.
