President Trump offered words of praise on Monday for Iranian protesters after footage of students appearing to refuse to step on U.S. or Israeli flags went viral.

In a tweet, the president thanked “wonderful” demonstrators in Iran for the apparent pro-U.S. gesture, which comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran were dialed back after coming to the brink of armed conflict.

The article goes on to state the following:

“Wow! The wonderful Iranian protesters refused to step on, or in any way denigrate, our Great American Flag. It was put on the street in order for them to trample it, and they walked around it instead. Big progress!” he said.

Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad had posted a video on Sunday, showing Iranian demonstrators carefully walking around both an American flag and an Israeli flag which appears to have been painted on the street. When a few people did walk across the flags, others yelled out at them in protest.

Below is Trump’s tweet, followed by the video:

Alinejad tweeted, “Watch how Iranian students refuse to step on American & the flag of Israel. This should embarrassed Iranian regime & their propaganda funeral for #Soleimani where people were told to chant “Death To America”. Now people in Iran chanting “Death to Islamic Republic dictatorship.””

Trump warned Iran in a Twitter post on Sunday that they had better not kill their protesters.

In another tweet on Saturday, President Trump sent a message to the people who were rising up to protest against the Iranian regime, writing, “To the brave, long-suffering people of Iran: I’ve stood with you since the beginning of my Presidency, and my Administration will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely, and are inspired by your courage.”
