Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Thursday defended her colleague Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) against conservative attacks over her remarks on the 9/11 terrorist attack, accusing Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) of insincerity.

Conservatives have recently torn into Omar for a speech to the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) in which she said that, the wake of the 2001 attack, some people equated all Muslims with terrorists.

The article goes on to state the following:

“CAIR was founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something, and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties,” she said.

Crenshaw has been among the most vocal critics of Omar’s description of the attacks. She called his tweets on the matter “dangerous incitement” in light of the recent arrest of a New York man who allegedly threatened to assault and murder her.

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted:

You refuse to cosponsor the 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund, yet have the audacity to drum resentment towards Ilhan w/completely out-of-context quotes.

In 2018, right-wing extremists were behind almost ALL US domestic terrorist killings. Why don’t you go do something about that?

In another tweet, Ocasio-Cortez slammed the NY Post for their cover photo, which featured a photo of the deadly 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, reminding Omar that this was more than just “something.”

AOC tweeted:

I’m not going to quote the NY Post’s horrifying, hateful cover.

Here’s 1 fact: @IlhanMN is a cosponsor of the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. She‘s done more for 9/11 families than the GOP who won’t even support healthcare for 1st responders- yet are happy to weaponize her faith.
