An adviser to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) hit back at Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) on Friday after Gaetz, a top ally of President Trump, warned that Kemp could face a primary challenger if he doesn’t appoint Trump’s preferred candidate to a soon-to-be open Senate seat.

“Mind your own business. We don’t know you and we don’t care what you think,” tweeted Ryan Mahoney, whom the Atlanta Journal-Constitution identified as a top Kemp adviser.

The article goes on to state the following:

He was responding to an earlier tweet from Gaetz which said: “You all begged for @realDonaldTrump ’s support. Now, you are directly acting in contravention to his request.”

The spat was all over a request Gaetz made that Kemp honor President Trump’s request to appoint Rep. Doug Collins to a senate seat that is opening up due to a Republican senator retiring at the end of the year because of ill health.

Friday morning, Gaetz tweeted to Governor Kemp, ““The establishment” is who @realDonaldTrump helped u beat in the primary when you were down double digits. It’s not the establishment you are screwing with your donor-induced stubbornness. You are hurting President Trump. You know this because he told you.”

In a second tweet, he added, “Gov. Kemp, do you have any idea how absurd it is to tweet that your big push-back against the “establishment” is a donor who gave $700k plus to Mitt Romney and nothing to Trump until she wanted in the Senate? What’s next? Appointing Michael Vick to an animal welfare task force?”

Kemp tweeted, “I stand with hardworking Georgians and @POTUS. The idea that I would appoint someone to the U.S. Senate that is NOT pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, pro-freedom, and 100% supportive of our President (and his plan to Keep America Great) is ridiculous.”

Gaetz responded, “[email protected] told you how to be supportive: Appoint @RepDougCollins. You are ignoring his request because you THINK you know better than @POTUS. If you substitute your judgement for the President’s, maybe you need a primary in 2022. Let’s see if you can win one w/o Trump.”

Governor Kemp’s communications director, Candice Broce, jumped in, tweeting, “[email protected]: For a “Constitutional conservative,” you’re oddly submissive to #TheSwamp. @GovKemp runs the Peach State. This appointment is his alone. You should focus on Florida and study federalism — because I question your “judgement.””

Gaetz hit back, “Submissive? Me?! Turn on a TV. I defend @realDonaldTrump against the Swamp daily. I’d like your boss not to screw over the President who has been very good to him. Since you’re the spox: Is @BrianKempGA confident he can win a primary against a Trump-endorsed candidate?”

Kemp advisor Ryan Mahoney taunted, “Mind your own business. We don’t know you and we don’t care what you think.”   Mahoney also then mocked Gaetz on his choice of apparel. It continued to go downhill from there.  More tweets below:
