REPORT: Devastated family of American hostage in Iran says he has died, Trump responds
As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News App offers the following information published by TheHill.com:
The family of Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent held hostage in Iran, said U.S. officials informed them that he is dead.
“We don’t know when or how he died, only that it was prior to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the family said in a statement Wednesday.
The article goes on to state the following:
Levinson, who worked for 22 years as a special agent with the FBI, disappeared in Iran in 2007 while on an unsanctioned CIA intelligence-gathering mission. He is believed to be the longest-held America hostage, though Tehran has never acknowledged holding him.
President Trump was asked about the the report that Levinson had died during the White House coronavirus task force news briefing Wednesday afternoon. He acknowledged the seriousness of the issue, but said he had received no definite confirmation of Levinson’s death.
“I don’t accept it that he’s dead,” President Trump said.

“They haven’t told us he is dead,” Trump says of Robert Levinson. Family put out a statement saying U.S. officials had led them to believe he was dead.

Asked about Bob Levinson’s family saying they’ve been told he died, Trump says, “It’s not looking good. He wasn’t well for years…it’s not looking promising.” He’s speaking of Levinson partly in the past tense, partly in the present, but says he doesn’t accept Levinson is dead.

Very confusing moment at Trump’s briefing. Below is a statement from Robert Levinson’s family saying US officials informed them that he passed away, but Trump said he doesn’t accept that he has passed? https://t.co/kkGaBBKy3i

Sadly, today marks the 13th anniversary of Bob Levinson’s abduction in #Iran. It’s time to bring him home to his family. The Iranian government should end its policy of hostage-taking and release all Americans imprisoned in Iran. #HelpBobLevinson
