New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders announced a proposal to convert post offices into functioning banks and institutions of financial services. The two Democratic Socialists believe the idea of postal banking will help do the following:

  •  Provide relief to low-income Americans.
  • Allow  low-interest loans, checking and savings accounts, debit cards, check cashing, bill payment, ATM services, online banking services and electronic money transfers.
  • Prevent Americans from falling victim to lending malpractices.

The Treasury Department is against the proposal, claiming the USPS has limited expertise in handling financial operations and the transition would be risky. The USPS office has also publicly commented on similar proposals before, stating their goal is delivering, not banking.

Just another hare-brained scheme by AOC’s puppetmaster.

Socialists want this because the government would have control and it’s a way to weasel their way into peoples lives!

Absurd thoughts of a communist. AOC should not be allowed to write laws as she is from a Stalin past life. Heaven forbid she ever become a speaker of congress in either the house or the senate. I was horrified when I saw her leading the house floor last week. She isn’t mentally stable enough to be a lawyer let alone a congresswoman.

You must be kidding! They can’t deliver the mail in a timely way, call them and they put you on hold for over an hour and then are rude. I can’t imagine what the would do with our money. Another way to control the people. No no no!

Post office as banks? We don’t even need Brick and mortar banks.

Last I checked, Post Offices still have money orders, those are financial devices that low income people can use. Why put more of a stress on a stressed government agency?
Leave banking to the experts and keep the government out of it because they will most likely ‘muck it up.’
