OpEd: A real Democrat celebrates ICE raids

On August 7, 2019 ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) issued a press release that announced, ICE executes federal search warrants at multiple Mississippi locations. Fox News also reported on that massive field operation in its report, ICE raids on Mississippi food processing plants result in 680 arrests.
The Democratic Party of old would have been ecstatic that ICE had conducted a massive work-site field operation last week that resulted in the arrest of nearly 700 illegal aliens working in the meatpacking industry. Today the exact opposite has happened.
Before we consider how the media reported on that field operation and how Democrats reacted we must first understand that the enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws is not only essential to public safety, public health and national security. It is also important to protect the jobs and wages of American and lawful immigrant workers.
IPrior to World War II the Labor Department had primary authority to enforce and administer our immigration laws. FDR was determined to create jobs for as many Americans as possible, back then, to get America out of the Depression.
Foreign workers displace Americans and drive down wages. Labor is a commodity and when any commodity is flooded into the marketplace the value of that commodity decreases. Furthermore, desperate foreign workers who come to America from countries with lower standards of living willingly accept lower wages under substandard conditions, thereby creating a new norm.
The enforcement of our immigration laws shifted to the Justice Department at the beginning of the Second World War when it was realized that foreign spies and saboteurs were seeking to enter the United States to undermine our national security.
After the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 the enforcement and administration of our immigration laws was shifted to the Department of Homeland Security.
As I have noted in numerous articles, in my testimony before Congressional hearings and when I provided testimony to the 9/11 Commission, effective immigration law enforcement is essential in efforts to prevent the entry and embedding of international terrorists.
Indeed, the 9/11 Commission noted that the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 and other such attacks were only possible because of multiple failures of the immigration system.
The obvious question should be, why would anyone oppose the enforcement of our immigration laws?
One of the biggest lies told by the radical left is that our immigration laws are racist and hence supporters of immigration law enforcement are racists. Our immigration laws make absolutely no distinction about race, religion or ethnicity.
One of the sections of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA)- Title 8, United States Code, Section 1182, enumerates the categories of aliens who are to be excluded from the United States. Among these classes of aliens are aliens who suffer from dangerous communicable, diseases or extreme mental illness are criminals, human rights violators, terrorists and spies.
Also excludible are aliens who would seek unlawful employment thus displacing American workers.
In the wake of the ICE field operation reporters immediately interviewed the crying children whose illegal alien parents had been arrested. It is disturbing to see any child who is in a state of distress and the media, knowing this, quickly exploited those kids.
However, every day children are separated from their parents who are arrested for a wide array of law violations. Yet the media never interviews those screaming children.
Pelosi has accused ICE agents of creating a “climate of fear” within the “immigrant communities.” In reality, lawful immigrants have nothing to fear from ICE, indeed, these lawful immigrants received their lawful status from a division of the DHS, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. Indeed, every year more than one million aliens are granted such lawful immigrant status- that number is greater than then number of immigrants admitted by all of the other countries o the planet combined!
Interestingly the IRS uses fear as a tactic to intimidate American citizens to not cheat on their taxes. Every year, shortly before the fifteenth of April the IRS has lots of tax cheats and fraudsters arrested and creates a media event about this. This is certainly a tactic of intimidation- yet I have never heard Nancy or her cohorts despair at the “climate of fear” this creates for American citizens.
Wikipedia posted an insightful article under the title, Labor rights in American meatpacking industry. This excerpt was published under the heading of “Meatpacker Demographics”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in 2000, 148,100 people worked in meatpacking and over 250,000 worked in poultry processing. Despite the growth of the meat production industry, slaughterhouse workers’ wages have been decreasing rapidly. Slaughterhouse workers’ wages were historically higher than the average manufacturing wage. This trend reversed in 1983 when slaughterhouse worker wages fell below the average manufacturing wage. By 2002, slaughterhouse workers’ wages were 24% below the average manufacturing wage. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2006, the median wage for slaughterhouse workers was $10.43 per hour which comes out to $21,690 per year.
While the Democrats insist that they want to establish a minimum wage of $15.00 per hour today, years ago workers in slaughterhouses were earning more than $20.00 per hour- until illegal aliens displaced American workers. Today the Democrats want to import an endless supply of exploitable illegal alien workers, figuratively and literally, at the expense of hardworking American and lawful immigrant workers.
The Democrats used to stand behind hard-working Americans. Today when Democrats stand behind those workers, they better look out!
