(CNN) — Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin on Friday defied subpoena requests from House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal for President Donald Trump’s tax returns.

In a new letter, Mnuchin again says the request “lacks a legitimate legislative purpose” and that he is “not authorized to disclose the requested returns and return information.”

The article goes on to state the following:

The denial is not a surprise. The Trump administration already turned down Neal’s April request for six years of tax information about the President’s personal and business finances.

Disregarding the subpoena signals a likely court fight and opens questions about how Neal might respond. Neal has said he would prefer not to issue contempt citation to either Mnuchin or IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig in the matter.
“I don’t see what good it would do at this particular time,” Neal said. “I think if both sides have made up their minds, better to move it to the next branch of government, the judiciary.”

U.S. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal said on Friday he was consulting with counsel on how best to enforce his subpoena for President Donald Trump’s tax returns after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin turned down his demand.

“Given the Treasury Secretary’s failure to comply today, I am consulting with counsel on how best to enforce the subpoenas moving forward,” Neal said in a statement.

I’m going to have a helluva laugh if ever they get a hold of his tax returns and find nothing illegal, but it wouldn’t make them more of an ass than they already are.

A president doesn’t have to reveal his taxes is voluntary I don’t know why they are so hell bent on this crusade rather then focusing on the problems of this country. If this is how these idiots are going to run this country heaven help us all
